My name's Daryl. I played Jim Hawkins in Theater Down South's 2009 production of Prince Street Players's Treasure Island. This blog was originally meant to document the show's run, but is now moving on like I am, and will follow me as I continue to do this crazy job. Stick around, and I hope you find something of interest here. Get in touch!

That’s basically what “The Show Must Go On” means. It’s one of the most useful and important things anyone will learn from this job, and I guess, in a way, while it can become one of the most difficult things to do, it’s also one of the things that will keep you sane and afloat.
This year alone, I had to suck it up at least a hundred different times. I got run over by a motorcycle half an hour before rehearsals, filled in for my alternate whenever he couldn’t make it even if it wasn’t my turn to run, learned a whole new track in the span of an afternoon, juggled Shakespeare along with Treasure Island and Rapunzel, and dealt with my life offstage.
The thing is, this job is all about serving other people. It’s about not dropping the ball, even if you’re tired, or even if you forget a line, or even if you’re sick. It’s about giving the audience the best, no matter what. It’s about fulfilling your responsibilities, for that matter, no matter what. It’s not just about you. In fact, I’m not even sure if it’s about yourself at all.
Personally, I think it’s what keeps this job interesting.
